Project Description

Go_HOME was a collaborative residency project of two artists of different ethnic and religious backgrounds: Danica Dakic from Bosnia and Hersegovina and Sandra Sterle from Croatia joined by visiting artists, Milica Tomic and Marjetica Potrc. Go_HOME examined issues of physical, psychological, and cultural dislocation for immigrants and exiles. The artists worked with CEC's cultural exchange program, ArtsLink, to be in residence in New York City for four months. Dialogue activity centered around monthly video streamed, topical dinner conversations hosted by the artists with guests invited from immigrant service organizations, academia, and the arts community. The residing and visiting artists created artwork for a Go_HOME web site in collaboration with Location 1 and the Center for Contemporary Art in Sarajevo that aimed to stimulate international dialogue on issues of immigration and exile. By establishing a virtual homeland for exiles who cannot "go home," this project experimented with the potential for virtual arts-based civic dialogue on an international level.
