research and information

Arts leaders, elected officials, and citizen advocates need action-oriented research to advocate for better arts policy on the national, regional, and local level. Our studies make a strong case for the arts—in terms of economic, social, and educational benefits. Our ongoing commitment to collecting and disseminating valuable research is strengthened by our:

  • Action-Oriented Research: The Arts & Economic Prosperity is the national economic impact study on the nation’s nonprofit arts organizations and their audiences. Our new Creative Industries research uses Dun & Bradstreet data to map and report the number of arts-related businesses and employees in any geographic region or political jurisdiction in the country.
  • Arts Research Services: By leveraging our staff specialists and web-based capabilities, we provide local research at an affordable cost. Partnering communities are able to meet their local research objectives with efficiency and national credibility.
  • The National Arts Policy Database: A tool that enables users to access current information on a multitude of topics related to arts policy. Records in the database are classified into four types: research abstracts, news articles, program profiles, and sample documents. The database is updated weekly and contains over 8,000 records—providing arts policy researchers, advocates, and administrators with comprehensive information on arts policy and practice.
  • Arts Watch Policy E-News: Representatives of commercial and nonprofit enterprises, arts and cultural practitioners, educators, researchers, government employees, volunteers, students, and concerned citizens are all encouraged join the listserv and stay informed. The Cultural Policy Listserv provides weekly news, events, announcements, and jobs in Access & Equity; Community; Creativity & the Law; Education & the Creative Workforce; International Relations; Heritage & Preservation; and National InvestmentSubscribe now.
