At the 2006 Public Art Preconference, Material Meaning: Process, Product and Preservation, public art professionals, community leaders, and public artists engaged in vital conversations about cutting-edge technology, effective advocacy, public participation and decision-making in the commissioning process, new and uncommon materials, and maintenance and preservation. They explored Greater Milwaukee during excursions to the Milwaukee Art Museum, Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design, and John Michael Kohler Arts Center; took tours of local public art; visited artists’ studios; and saw amazing views of architectural highlights. They also enjoyed neighborhood hospitality at evening receptions in the heart of the city.
