Patron Technology was founded in 2001 by industry veteran Eugene Carr, who has pioneered arts marketing on the internet. His first technology venture, CultureFinder.com, an award-winning nationwide cultural events directory and calendar, was founded in 1995 and was funded by America Online and Comcast. He is a regular guest speaker at arts industry conferences and is the author of Wired for Culture: How E-mail Is Revolutionizing Arts Marketing, Sign Up for Culture: The Arts Marketers Guide to Building an Effective E-mail List, and Web Sites for Culture: Essential Principles for Great Arts Web Sites.
Mr. Carr’s career spans both arts management and the corporate worlds. From 1987–90 he worked in the travel industry, marketing at American Express. Then from 1991–1996, he served as the executive director of the American Symphony Orchestra at Lincoln Center, and simultaneously served in the same position for the Concordia Orchestra beginning in 1994. He founded High Five Tickets to the Arts, an award-winning organization that offers a five dollar ticket program for New York City high school students sponsored by Citibank & TicketMaster, and served as its first chairman of the board. He earned undergraduate degrees in history and cello performance from Oberlin College and Conservatory and an M.B.A. from Columbia Business School.
