state arts action network
Donna Collins serves as executive director for both Ohio Citizens for the Arts (OCA) and the Ohio Alliance for Arts Education (OAAE). Collins’ dual role provides her the opportunity to work with two statewide nonprofit organizations with diverse and energetic boards and membership. OCA’s mission is to increase public support of the arts in Ohio by advocating on behalf of the Ohio Arts Council and the arts throughout the state. OAAE’s mission is to ensure the arts are an integral part of the education of every Ohioan.
Collins serves as co-chair of the Annual Arts Day and Governor’s Awards for the Arts in Ohio which is presented in partnership by the Ohio Citizens for the Arts Foundation and Ohio Arts Council. The awards ceremony and luncheon for this event boast the attendance of nearly one thousand individuals which includes more than 80 percent of the Ohio legislature. As a leader in the field of arts education and arts advocacy, Collins serves as an Americans for the Arts State Captain. In addition to serving on the SAAN Council, Collins is an elected member of the Arts Education Council at Americans for the Arts. In 2006, she authored “Keeping Arts Education in Focus” for the Arts Link newsletter.
Under Collins’ direction, OAAE has secured more than $1,000,000 in state, federal, and foundation grant awards to support arts education in the areas of assessment, gifted identification, professional development, and mentoring. Collins’ strong relationships among Ohio’s professional organizations (Ohio Music Education Association, Ohio Art Education Association, OhioDance, and the Ohio Educational Theatre Association) create a perfect scenario for grassroots advocacy.
