Professional Development

Professional development today is about "capacity building." Career-building education not only helps the individual achieve his or her own professional goals, but also trains employees to contribute more effectively to their organizations and to the field as a whole. To this end, Americans for the Arts offers multiple professional development programs designed to teach specific skill sets. The Annual Convention held each June provides skill-building training for more than a thousand participants. Through events like Creative Conversations in October and Arts Advocacy Day in March, young arts professionals can meet, network, and revitalize their commitments to the arts. Foundations help us in the field by encouraging mid-career professionals to build new skills and by providing unique opportunities to mentor the growth of emerging arts professionals.
