State Arts Education Policy

Most states have a mandated arts education policy, which may include specifics on graduation requirements, curriculum, and standards in the visual arts, dance, theater, and music. However, state mandates may or may not be enforced. It is not uncommon for state boards of education to formally adopt standards and leave curriculum development and implementation to the discretion of the districts. In short, state arts education policy varies greatly.
