Topic: Arts Education: "After-School" or "Out-of-School" Learning
Learning in and through the arts is not limited to the confines of a classroom or the school day. As schools become increasingly focused on high-stakes testing, there has been a narrowing of curriculum. In some circumstances, the arts have been “squeezed out” of the school day. Some organizations and service providers have combated this trend by offering high-quality arts programming during nonschool hours. Arts programs that operate outside of the school day can keep children and teens engaged in constructive learning environments, an added benefit for at-risk youth.
