Raymond Tymas-Jones

Raymond Tymas-Jones was appointed Dean of the College of Fine Arts and Associate Vice-President for the Arts at University of Utah in September 2005. In his role as dean, Dr. Tymas-Jones provides academic and administrative leadership for six units of fine and performing arts in the College of Fine Arts.  His portfolio includes serving as the chief administrative officer for the Utah Museum of Fine Arts, the Pioneer Theatre Company, Kingsbury Hall Performing Arts Center and the Virginia Tanner Dance Program.  Prior to his current administrative appointment, Dean Tymas-Jones served as Associate Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Fine Arts at Buffalo State College (1990-93), Director of the School of Music at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls (1993-98) and the Dean of the College of Fine Arts at Ohio University (1998-2005).

Dean Tymas-Jones has performed as a featured soloist with orchestras such as the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, the St. Louis Orchestra, the Erie Chamber Orchestra (PA) and the Waterloo/Cedar Falls Orchestra (IA).  His operatic and musical theatre performances have been with companies such as Connecticut Opera, Syracuse Opera, Erie Opera Theatre and the Greater Buffalo Opera Company, and he has performed in Germany, Russia, Belgium, Luxembourg and France.  In October 2011 he became President of the International Council of Fine Arts Deans.

Dean Tymas-Jones received a Ph.D. in Performance Practice in Voice, a Master of Music degree in Choral Conducting and Voice from Washington University (St. Louis), and a Bachelor of Music degree from Howard University.
