Ed Lebow

Edward Lebow has directed the Phoenix Public Art Program since 2005. Under his leadership, the program has developed a GIS mapping system to better see the big picture of how art can benefit the city’s investments in infrastructure and urban design. He and his staff oversee a program with 80 projects totaling $26 million. Future projects include the planning and development of more than $6 million in public art projects for a new automated train (opens 2013) at the airport. Recently completed award-winning projects include multi-modal trails, parks, pedestrian bridges and the new Janet Echelman’s Her Secret is Patience at the new Downtown Phoenix Civic Space. Before joining the city’s Office of Arts and Culture, Lebow was an award-winning journalist, covering government, politics, art and design for a range of publications. As an investigative reporter for Phoenix New Times, he was awarded the 2001 John Kolbe Politics and Government Reporting Award by the Arizona Press Club and a 2000 first-place Unity Award by Lincoln University for political series writing. He continues to write about art and design for a range of publications and museum catalogues.
