Public Leadership in the Arts

The National Public Leadership in the Arts Awards are given in recognition of an elected official or artist who plays an important role in the advancement of the arts and arts education within his or her community, and whose vision and leadership provide heightened visibility to the value of the arts.

We are currently accepting nominations for the 2010 National Leadership in the Arts Awards for Governor, Mayor, and Member of Congress. The deadline for the Gubernatorial and Mayoral nominations is November 13, 2009, and the deadline for Congressional nominations is February 5, 2010. The Gubernatorial and Mayoral Awards will be presented at the U.S. Conference of Mayors Winter Meeting in Washington, DC, January 20–22, 2010. The Congressional Award will be presented at Arts Advocacy Day on April 13, 2010 in Washington, DC.

The County (Governing Board), Lieutenant Governor, and State Legislator categories will be presented throughout the month of July 2010. The County (Governing Board) Award will be presented at the National Association of Counties (NACO) annual meeting in Reno, NV, July 16–20, 2010. The State Legislator Award will be presented in partnership with the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) at their legislative summit in Louisville, KY, July 25–29, 2010. The Lieutenant Governor Award will be presented in partnership with the National Lieutenant Governors Association (NLGA) at their annual meeting in Gulfport, MS, July 27–31, 2010.
