As president and CEO of the Arts & Science Council of Charlotte/Mecklenburg County Inc., North Carolina, Harriet Sanford heads the second largest local arts agency in the United States with the highest per-capita and individual giving. It distributed more than $14 million in 2001 to support a collection of cultural organizations and emerging artists in the greater Charlotte area. She serves on the United Arts Fund Council and the boards of the Alliance of Artists' Communities and Americans for the Arts. Harriet also has a long-term commitment to supporting international exchange between South Africa and the United States.
