Marc Vogl is a program officer in the performing arts program at the Hewlett Foundation where he manages grants to Bay Area arts organizations and develops strategies to promote next generation leadership. Vogl is also co-chair of Northern California Grantmakers Arts Loan Fund, serves on Oakland’s Cultural Commission’s Funding Advisory Committee, and previously served on the San Francisco Arts Task Force and the Obama campaign’s Arts Policy Committee. He co-founded the Bay Area sketch comedy group Killing My Lobster and the Hi/Lo Film Festival, and was executive director of Lobster Theater Project, a multidisciplinary San Francisco nonprofit arts organization.

Members of the Americans for the Arts Emerging Leaders Network chose to honor Vogl because of his personal interest in the generational leadership shift in the arts and professional dedication to leadership development for the field. An example of his work includes initiating a partnership with the Irvine Foundation that provided professional development grants to emerging arts leaders throughout California, focusing on career advancement and fulfillment, organizational capacity, and personal happiness.

The Americans for the Arts Emerging Leaders Network works to identify and cultivate the next generation of arts leaders in America. It is an ideal way for new leaders to share their interests with others as they continue to develop their skills and their commitment to the arts. The Emerging Leaders program works with professionals who are either new to the field, with up to five years of experience, or are 35 years of age or younger.
